My adventure to Social Media Marketing World 2017 in San Diego got off to a rocky start. There was ice and snow, drinks and friends. And most importantly, lots of great learning. I’ve already bought my ticket for SMMW18. Read on to see what I learned this year and why I’m already planning on attending next year.
For the second year, I’ve been fortunate to attend Social Media Examiner’s annual conference, Social Media Marketing World. Last year I focused my time on learning more about Instagram and SEO. This year I focused on Snapchat and storytelling. What a difference a year can make! Here are my top takeaways from this year’s event.
We all need to engage in professional development from time to time. Being with my social media peers always has a refreshing, invigorating and inspirational effect on me. If you’re going to take time away from your busy work schedule, and financial resources from other business building activities, you need to recoup what you’ve spent in other ways.
When I returned from the conference I shared a lot of my new Instagram knowledge with my sister, Shari Tucker, who is a travelling photographer and travel agent. Just hearing what she does you know she is the perfect candidate for a rockin’ Instagram account, don’t you? I told her all of this stuff in one major brain dump of a message. One week later, she had a huge, exciting business lead. ONE WEEK. You can find leads on Instagram, too!
Not only were many of the world’s biggest and brightest thought leaders from the social media and digital industries present (Guy Kawasaki, Mari Smith, CS Penn, Marcus Sheridan, Jay Baer, Chris Brogan, and so on, and so on), they were accessible, approachable and helpful. I attended sessions on Facebook Advertising, Instagram, Pinterest, marketing, blogging, SEO and more. I am rejuvenated and raring to go.
