When it comes to content marketing and SEO, you make your own luck. There’s really nothing LUCKY about social media marketing. Either you have a good idea, and execute on it, or you don’t. There are certain things you can do to help your content resonate in a way that makes you look and feel lucky.
Luck: success or failure apparently brought by chance rather than through one’s own actions.
If you are sitting around waiting to get lucky on social media you’re missing out. It is your own actions that will make you “lucky” in this arena. Sure there are people who “luck out” and go viral for doing something silly or stupid or funny. Going viral isn’t something you can plan for or easily make happen. So all that is left is to plan for success, right?
One way to plan for success in social media is to take a little time to ensure your social profiles are filled out and optimized. And this is something you should do regularly as the profile requirements and layouts change frequently. I can’t even count the number of people I’ve NOT contacted for business opportunities because the link to their website or social media was broken. It only takes a few minutes to audit your profiles annually or every six months.
Probably the best way to get lucky in social media is by providing valuable evergreen content your followers can’t get anywhere else. If they can get it somewhere else, you’d better be delivering it in a unique way or they’ll just go elsewhere! If all you do is share other people’s content, or follow what others do, why should we follow you? Give us value and we’ll be back again for more. Plus, Google loves it when you provide valuable content on a regular basis…and when Google loves you, you’re more likely to feel lucky as your traffic numbers grow!
There’s really no such thing as luck when it comes to success in any arena. I’ve been working exclusively in social media marketing for small businesses for a decade now. I don’t attribute any of my success to luck. It was all hard work, experience, learning, planning and executing. Does everything I do work out? Of course not. Do I keep trying? Absolutely.
If you’re ready to experience more luck in social media, start with UNDERcomplicating your social media planning. The next round of the No BS Social Media Blueprint is coming soon and it’s a great way to get started without feeling overwhelmed by all the options.
